What Daughters Are Good For

What Daughters Are Good For

Scratching awkward itches,
Dragging daisies out of ditches,
Riding scooters dressed as witches,
Little good for...

Running rose-petal juice shops,
Shouting as she skips and hops,
Wearing real pink princess tops,
Little good for...

Doing her belt up in the car,
Telling dads how bald they are,
Chatty phone calls from afar,
Little good for...

Taking two hours for tea,
Snuggly stories next to me,
Ring-finger wishes, sleepily,
Little good for...

Being a mom, I've always been deeply touched by the tenderness a dad shows for his little girl.

Thanks for the comments folks. I've written quite a few poems about Misty over the years, but it's been a while overdue, so I'm glad the inspiration struck me last weekend!
